Human Trafficking App Saves Lives

Every effort counts in fighting human trafficking and it can be as easy as downloading an app. Redlight Traffic is a free GPS-based app that assists the police in locating survivors and suspects of sex trafficking in English-speaking countries. Downloadable on any smart device, this app allows its users to report suspicious activity.
Founder Amin Haq and his wife, Jessica, developed Redlight Traffic with the help of detectives. App users can send pictures, locate a problem area on a map, and answer questions to aid police. All the information is sent to Redlight Traffic where they forward reports to the appropriate police agencies. Amin says that agencies actively look at their reports and have cases that are open because of the information provided by users. In fact, Redlight Traffic has helped rescue 25 children from sex traffickers since it started. Data received from the app also allows developers to generate updated statistics on human trafficking.

The couple created Redlight Traffic in Seattle, a city known to have one the highest rates of human trafficking in the United States. Police have said that hundreds of children are being trafficked every day in King County. In regions such as Seattle, incidences go undiscovered as people often do not feel comfortable getting involved by calling 911. Redlight Traffic remedies this trend by allowing people get to a safe place before sending in a report.
